The Gift Of Love - Valentines Flowers
February 14 is what we identify as Valentine's Day, a significant day for people who are in love to celebrate their love. It's a day where you'll see couples flocking the parks and restaurants, or any place that promises a romantic atmosphere to get couples in the lovey-dovey mood.
I don't know about guys, but most girls secretly anticipate Valentine's Day, because it's a day where they get to exchange romantic gifts with their partners. The ladies would usually get their boyfriends or husbands' presents such as cool t-shirts, technological gadgets or handmade necklaces that we force them to wear. As for the men, I think it's safe to say that the conventional Valentine's Day gift for your girl is a bouquet of Valentines flowers.
Flowers make the perfect and most sentimental of gifts, but guys, when buying flowers, it's best to understand the message you are presenting with your flowers because different flowers convey different meanings. It's actually known as the flower language, which originated in the Victorian era as a way to convey certain messages. The last thing you want on Valentine's Day is to hand your date a bouquet of funeral flowers, and then wonder why she runs off crying.
Red roses are the most popular Valentines Flowers, mainly because they communicate the ultimate expression of love - "I love you". If you are planning to proclaim your love through red roses, you might want to flavour the bouquet with an extra touch of affection by adding some baby's breaths that indicate everlasting love, and also ferns that signifies your sincerity. Roses of other colours have different significance so you have to be careful if you plan on giving them to your Valentine. For example, peach roses won't be appropriate as a Valentine's gift, as they represent appreciation, gratitude and also sympathy. If you are romantically inclined with your partner, you might also want to stay away from yellow roses, as they indicate friendship and freedom and thus, yellow roses would mean that you're not willing to commit to a long-lasting relationship.
Nevertheless, yellow flowers are excellent gifts for your mother if you are sweet enough to give her a Valentine's Day present too.
If you think red roses have lost their appeal since they are too old school or too cliche (or maybe because you're broke and red roses are extremely expensive in February), you can also convey your love through other types of flowers. Tulips are also wonderful flowers because they mean 'perfect love' and red tulips are best since they mean 'true love'. What melts a girl's heart more than telling her that she is your perfect one true love, right? Alternatively, you can also go for Forget-me-nots, as they also represent true love. For a more subtle love declaration, try small sunflowers, as they are cheerful, bright flowers that symbolize adoration.
Once you've picked your flowers, you might want to further enchant your girl by describing poetically the significance of the flowers. For instance, you can say, "I bought you these beautiful sunflowers because like them, your smile is as bright. They also symbolise how much I adore you for your kindness, sincerity..." Oh and if you say it, please mean it!
Although every flower has its own significant meaning, I do believe that any flower would make a girl's day because the act of giving them itself already indicates that you care. Besides, you can personally assign your own meaning to the flowers you intend to give your Valentine. Bougainvillea could mean that she is beautiful and rare, thus a treasure that you'd appreciate. It's really up to your creativity. Any type of Valentines flower is a symbol of love in itself.
