Smocked Baby Dresses

Babies look cute in whatever you dress them. And if it is smoked then even cuter. Smocking is a type of embroidery where elastic is fitted in and the material is gathered up. Smocking works instead of buttons and other fasteners.

For babies it is ideal as it takes the fit of the body and the dress with smocking last for some more time as against another plain dress. Because it can stretch and fit the growing baby.

Smocking also keeps the baby comfortable giving maximum levy to the baby to move, twist and have their baby fun. As this style can be done wherever it is required whether on the dress or pants, it has become a favourite among parents.

Smocking dresses however are a bit expensive than other simple clothes because it takes more time to work upon and mostly is manually tailored. Also as kids clothes are small, it takes nimble soft hands and a lot of patience to get the dress completed.

Nevertheless if you like smocking embroidery then get yourself a small sewing machine and get to do smocking on your favourite colours and materials. Get registered at any tailoring classes or there are umpteen books and information on the net to source out from. Practice a bit and soon you will be a great smocking tailor.

However you must note the fabrics that smocking can be done on. For instance no silks or georgettes, no drooping or soft fabrics. Cotton is the best choice, cotton mixed with polyesters and other mix also work. So the material has to be a bit stiff for it to hold the smocking embroidery.

Smocking never goes out of fashion too. So you can stitch us dresses with the smocking pattern for many years and it will still look as beautiful and delighting.
