The flapper girl was a phenomenon of the 1920s. 1. Eye Makeup: Eye Makeup trends were the most noticeable things about makeup during the 1920s. During this time, women generally wore little to no eyeliner. When it was worn, it was a very thin line that was worn thicker at each corner of the bottom eyelid. Dark eye shadow was worn on the top lid and did not usually go over the crease of the lid. Only one color was used, in comparison to the two to three that we normally use when creating a smoky eye shadow appearance.

One of the many goals that flappers had during the 1920s with their appearance was to put emphasis on the eyelashes. To achieve this look, be sure to curl your eyelashes and apply mascara. Eyebrows were generally kept very long and quite thin.

3. Lip Makeup: Lip makeup also played a major role in the appearance of flappers during the 20s. The general trend was to use very bold lipstick colors, such as red. Lips were meant to look plump and a bit pouty. Use a lip liner to draw your top lip smaller than it really is and draws your bottom lip slightly shorter at each corner. Apply concealer in the areas where you ended your lips too short, so that they will blend in with your natural skin.

4. Nail Polish Makeup: Adorning the fingernails and toenails became widely popular with the invention of modern nail polish in 1920. Nails were extremely long and painted only in the middle. The tip and cuticle areas were left bare.

5. Face Powder Makeup: Face powder shifted from pale shades of cream and ivory to a more natural hue. Attitudes regarding the outdoors also shifted dramatically in the 1920s. It became socially desirable to be outdoors. When Coco Chanel fell asleep in the sun, the tan became a must-have.
