A Used Honda Makes a Great First Car

One of the biggest decisions a person can make is in buying their first car. Some thrifty, hardworking children do this for themselves while they are still in high school or college; others wait until they are out of school to make the big purchase. Either way, it can set a person up for financial peace or for financial heartache, depending on the decision that is made. Most people end up buying a used car for their first purchase, which can be a good decision. What makes that decision even better is buying a used Honda.

Used cars, in general, cost less than new cars. This means lower payments, if the purchase is financed, and lower insurance rates (since the replacement value of the car is lower). In some cases, a person may be able to purchase the car with cash and skip the payments altogether. This is an extremely wise decision for anyone who is in school, or just out of school, or just starting out in life. Buying a used Honda that is an older model, with higher mileage, is an easy way to find an affordable used car. Because Honda automobiles are so reliable and last so long, an inexpensive, older, high mileage Honda still usually isn't a clunker and can run quite well for years to come.

Still more costs to factor into the financial decision are the costs to run and maintain the car. First, a buyer must consider gas prices and fuel economy. The Honda brand is well-known for their fuel efficiency, and gas costs are sure to be kept down when purchasing one of Honda's best-selling models such as the Civic or Accord. Another cost factor is the cost of insurance. In general, insuring a used Honda won't cost as much as insuring other new cars. The replacement values may be higher than used cars of other makes, but the cars are quite reliable and safe, which means they will cost less to insure than a less reliable, safe make of car might be.

All in all, buying a used Honda is almost always a good decision. Financially, it can set a person up well for their future, especially if the car purchase is their first one. Judging by the raging popularity of the brand, it's apparent that many people think exactly the same thing!
